FarmerJones farm at Theebine will be giving a demonstration of making biochar

The first of the monthly farm walks for 2015 (after February’s 2 day SummerSchool at Kandanga) will be at Adam Jones farm at Theebine, and the topic is Biochar.  Adam and his friend Wolfgang will be demonstrating some small biochar-making ovens, and discussing the value of biochar as a soil amendment.  Adam would also appreciate any helpful discussion and comments about the latest changes he is making to his vegetable production system.

Please note the later-than-usual  starting time of 3pm.  The address is 7 Old Cleveland Rd, Theebine.  As with all these events, please be prepared to put some money in the tin to show your appreciation for the host for sharing their time, property and expertise, and bring along some food to share for  afternoon tea and discussion afterwards.

Here are Adams instructions about how to get there driving North from Gympie:  Turn left from the Bruce Highway  into Gunalda 20 mins North of Gympie.  Turn right at T-junction just off Highway at the park in Gunalda,  and follow Scrub Rd,  all the way to the Theebine rail crossing then turn right.  Turn left at the Theebine Hotel. I am the last house in Old Cleveland Rd.

(The navman will send you to a road last used in 1906 so don’t rely on the navman.)
Note* As a precaution if people could just wear their town shoes (not farm boots) and I will set up a bleach bath front hem to walk through at the gate.

Remember – If you know other growers or potential growers who you think will be interested in these farm walks – please invite them along, they are a good social way of sharing all sorts of valuable information between growers.
