DAGUN GROWERS MARKET
“WHERE FRESHNESS, FLAVOURS AND FRIENDS COME TOGETHER!”
The historic Dagun Railway Station (on the Mary Valley rail line, about 16km south of Gympie) is a hub of activity every Saturday afternoon. It hosts a range of social activities that encourage people to get together and enjoy good company. Bring an instrument and join in with the informal session, sing along and tap your feet to favourite tunes, have a glass of wine or a cuppa (and a slice of cheesecake!), set up a game of Scrabble or cards, or just kick back and enjoy the atmosphere. Starting in March-April 2024 there will also be recreational gardening activities in the Natural History Garden Walk and Labyrinth!
Dagun Station is also the home of Mary Valley Country Harvest Cooperative. On a Saturday afternoon you can pick up some fantastic locally-grown produce or browse through a selection of preserves featuring ingredients straight from the farms. There’s nothing finer than knowing that you are eating locally grown, organic and nourishing produce that comes from healthy plants grown in healthy soil, supplied directly by growers who are using regenerative and sustainable practices to improve and maintain the soils and biodiversity on their farms. Please note that fresh produce will be available again from mid-March – the heat and insect onslaughts have taken a toll on the crops, so there’s a lot of replanting happening right now.
Care is taken to ensure that no toxic chemicals or sprays are used in the soil or on the plants.
Care is taken to minimise handling, storage and trans- port to maximise freshness and nutritional value.
Care is taken to continually improve and maintain the state of the soil and the local environment.
DAGUN GROWERS MARKET
10 REASONS TO SHOP AT THE DAGUN GROWERS MARKET
Better for your health…
1. It was picked just before the market and our farm-fresh produce retains its peak flavour and nutritional content.
2. Eating fresh and minimally-processed foods reduces the risks of stroke and Type II diabetes, and improves cardioascular function.
3. Most of the fresh produce is chemical-free or organic. No artificial fertilisers or pest sprays.
4. Reduce your family’s overall exposure to the herbicides and pesticides used in conventional farming.
Better for our community…
5. Every dollar spent supports the growers and farmers in your community.
6. Growers markets help sustain family farms and build community by providing a place where people of all ages and in- come levels can shop, and socialise.
7. Growers markets spawn and support local small businesses.
8. By supporting local growers, you help en- sure that there will be farms in your community tomorrow, and that future generations will have access to nourishing, flavoursome and abundant food.
Better for the earth…
9. Dramatically reduce your ‘food miles’. Transporting food from major markets in Brisbane and from other states can require at least 5 times more fuel per kilogram of food than purchasing from your local growers market.
10. Sustainable farming practices help the soil remove carbon from the atmosphere.
