Large scale compost making on the Bartolo organic sugar farm in Mackay.
Steve and Laura Bartolo will guide us through large-scale compost production and discussing the benefits of remineralising through composting. Although relatively new to the Mary Valley, Steve and Laura have a wealth of experience in organic agriculture, including large scale compost making for sugar production in North Queensland, where Steve was the president of the Australia Organic Sugar Producers Association.
As with all the co-op farm walks, the afternoon starts at 2 pm, and visitors are asked to bring along some food to share for afterwards, and a gold coin donation for the farmer giving up their time to share their information.
